Children are blessings. My father used to say that kids are Gods till the age of five. We all might have had such divine interventions of kids in our lives. Harimohan Paruvu, in his book This Way is Easier, Dad, shares the anecdotes of incidents through which his daughter taught him life’s lessons.
The stories, more of anecdotes, are instances when his daughter Anjali viewed the incidents in a different light than how we adults view them. The author is surprised to see how her little daughter is able to view everything positively while we adults tend to extract negativity from anything and everything. Her idea of being happy is her attitude itself. It is surprising to see how a four year old girl demanded a guitar through silent protest, which consisted of ‘post it’ demanding guitar. Initially she started the protests by writing ‘No’ accompanied with a drawing of guitar and sad face. After a few days, she shifted to a positive protest which was by writing yes accompanied by a guitar drawing and happy face. On another instance, when asked ‘If we are sad, how to be happy?’ Her answer is, ‘If you are happy, be happy. If you are sad, be sad. That’s all.’ She provided ants with sugar even though they bit her really bad. What do we learn from all this? This little girl taught minute philosophical ideas through her innocent questions and answers. The book is divided into six parts.
How to deal with the world.
How to be happy and how to love and be loved.
How to deal with people.
How to approach life.
How to get things done.
How to flow with abundance.
A child’s innocence will always plunge your psyche with happiness. All through the book Anjali made me smile. Now I feel that I personally know a little girl called Anjali who knows the solution for all problems in my life. She saved me from growing up too. Don’t pick this if you want to read a highly philosophical, matter or so called mettle. This is a simple, lovely, cute book by a father about how his daughter saved him from growing up.
