Pragya Vishnoi, On Writing India’s First Novel On Wicca

Who is Pragya Vishnoi?

I work as Information Technology Officer in a leading public sector bank. I try to use my free time post office hours for writing.

What made you write this book?

I had started writing the book The Wiccan Waltz just for fun. I had only written realistic fiction before and though I enjoy reading books about paranormal, I never thought I would write a paranormal thriller. This book is the result of 100% inspiration and 0% planning. Even I had no idea what would happen in the next chapter until I started writing it. It was as if the book has developed its own personality and I had no control.

What do you think the readers will love about the book?

The book has twists and turns which the reader will never expect. The USP of The Wiccan Waltz is its uniqueness. It is unlike anything that readers have read before. The Wiccan Waltz showcases teacher-student relationship in a poignant manner. The unconventional love story will make the reader think about love with a different perspective. Due to these features, young readers can easily identify with the protagonist of the story.

Your favourite authors and books

My favourite authors are Munshi Premchand, Rabindranath Tagore, Anton Chekhov, O.Henry and Paolo Coelho. Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner and Paolo Coelho’s Brida have made a profound impact on me.

About the book

The book is about a young girl Anika who is curious and impulsive like any teenager. Her curiosity leads her to the mysterious path of Wicca, which is a sect of modern witchcraft. She meets her teacher Aparajita, who is an alluring woman but has her own secrets. Aparajita teaches her the tradition of Wicca and during her training, Anika learns about the concept of twin flames. With the help of Aparajita, Anika learns about her gift of dream-walking. Anika meets another student of Aparajita, Ryan, for whom she develops feelings.

The book is the first book published in India which delves into the subject of Wicca. Like any other teenager, Anika deals with the fear of venturing into the unknown and learns that courage is not a quality, it is a habit which develops by following what our heart says. Anika experiences the joy of first love and the pain of betrayal at the same time. These are two feelings to which every youngster can connect.
