Colorful Notions, as the name suggests is about the colorful belief of three youngsters – Abhay aka Ab, Shashank aka Sasha and Unnati, Sasha’s girlfriend who give up their high-paying job and comfortable personal life to drive ten thousand kilometers across India. Just for fun!
The daring three convinced everyone and made a well thought out plan to cover 10,000 km in India starting from Delhi and ending at Tajmahal. While the two guys take turns to drive, the girl gives voice-over as they record their entire journey on a handycam.
Ab, Sasha and Unnati are ordinary youngsters, rendered special by the feat they accomplish. They look at each other with a glint in their eyes, as if refurbishing those memories, as they narrate their spooky time at Bhangarh Fort, strange escapades at Wagah Border and Sundarbans, car breakdowns, wild animals, near-death experiences and highway robbers! It’s nothing less than crazy.
As per the author, Mohit Goyal doubted if he would ever have the gumption to create such experiences. So he penned a book about them and their road trip.
Colorful Notions is a journey of three young hearts on the Indian terrain and into the inner recesses of their souls, giving a new perspective to relationships, love, and life.
Most of us always have a dream to take a road trip around the country to get mesmerized by the beauty of nature and that is what exactly the three protagonist plan. Though the author’s main focus is the life of the three characters, the hidden confusion and unanswered questions they have in their mind. For instance, Ab is still figuring out why his parents divorced each other and Sasha who is a big time foodie is yet to complete his dream of opening a sweet shop but he has also studied the geography of India well. The details given on NH and several delicacies and important places of different parts of India I must say to some extent Mohit Goyal has justified the concept of road trip.
Though the places are not so detailed but the way the author has entwined the story of love and relationship around a road trip to twenty five different locations is mind blowing and unique. The book is fast paced and an interesting read. The characters are brilliantly sketched and the writing style is easy.
The book is an inspiration for those who always want to take a road trip but are not able to do so because of some commitment or fear. It gives a simple yet strong message that travel is not about money it is about courage.
For all the people who got inspired by Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, this book is another example to get inspired and maybe force you to pack your bags for the next vacation.
