Tata Literature Live: Mumbai, 2016

The Tata Literature Live in Mumbai is an annual get together for the huge bookish community. In its seventh edition, it promises to be a melange of authors, politicians, debates, discussions, quizzes and workshops. Here’s a glimpse on our pick of the must attend sessions.
Day 1 – 17th November, Thursday 
Opening ceremony (2-3 pm) , NCPA Nariman Point
Opening Ceremony followed by the launch of Shashi Tharoor’s An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India and the author in conversation with Amitav Ghosh about the The Legacy of the Raj.
Why attend? A chance to listen to these stalwarts, especially on an interesting subject like the British Raj.
A Book can make it better. (3.30-4.30 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
Why does literature have the power to heal? Frank Moorhouse, Nicholas Shakespeare, Yonatan Berg. Chair: Indira Chandrasekhar.
Why attend? Because we believe in the topic that literature has the power to heal. Let’s hear out the panellists and their views.
He Writes, She Writes. (6.30-7.30 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
What happens when your partner is a writer too? Gillian Johnson, Nicholas Shakespeare, Simon Armitage, Sue Roberts. Chair: Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi
Why attend? We’ve often heard about conflicts when both partners are writers, while it might be comforting at times too. It’s a hugely interesting and relevant topic.
Day 2 – 18th November, Friday
Sex and Sensibility. (10.30-11.30 am) NCPA Nariman Point
Writing erotica for an Indian reader. Kankana Basu, Pavan Varma, Shinie Antony. Chair: Paromita Vohra
Why attend? We, at Writersmelon have interacted with authors writing erotica and their problems with the Indian readers. Let’s know more about it.
Then what happens? (12 – 1 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
Do authors know where the story is going? Amish, Giorgio Montefoschi, Monica Cantieni. Chair: Shefali Balsari Shah
Why attend? Are you a writer? Did you know you were going to kill a character?
Tales of Horror. (4.30-6.30 pm) NCPA Nariman Point

Why attend? Fine tune the art of making readers’ spines chill.
Day 3 – 19th November, Saturday
You Cheeky Devil. (10.30-11.30 am). NCPA Nariman Point
A Literary Quiz with a twist. Dilip D’souza, Radhika Vaz, Rebecca Perry, Suhel Seth Quizmaster: Harish Bhat
Why attend? Who doesn’t love quizzes, and a literary quiz is just icing on the cake.
13 Steps to Bloody Good Wealth. (12-1 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
Book Launch of 13 Steps to Bloody Good Wealth followed by a discussion with Ashwin Sanghi, Leo Puri, Sunil Dalal Chair: Anish Trivedi.
Why attend? For those who need steps to bloody good wealth.
Waxing Eloquent. (2-3 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
Chetan Bhagat in conversation with Aparna Piramal Raje about One Indian Girl.
Why attend? Because you can love Chetan Bhagat or hate him, but you can’t ignore him.
Politics and Ideologies in India and Beyond. (3.30-4.30 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
Launch of Democracy and Dissenters followed by a Straight Talk on Politics and Ideology in India and Beyond by Ramachandra Guha
Why attend? If you are a politics enthusiast and don’t want to miss Ramchandra Guha.
Day 4 – 20th November, Sunday
Love, Death, Caste. (10.30-11.30 am) NCPA Nariman Point
Should serious topics stay out of children’s literature? Sayoni Basu, Nina Sabnani, Devpriya Lahiri Chair: Swaha Sahoo
Why attend? Because we love the topic and it is very important in children’s literature.
Shakespeare Debate. (12-1 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
The Greatness of Shakespeare is his language. For the motion: Alyque Padamsee, Suhel Seth. Against the motion: Carlos Gamerro, Simon Choa – Johnston. Chair: Soumya Bhattacharya
Why attend? Who hasn’t read Shakespeare! But do you like his language?
Responding to Hate. (5-6 pm) Prithvi Theater
Barkha Dutt and Shobhaa De discuss the perils of taking a stand.
Why attend? Listen to controversy’s favourite children.
Tata Lit Live Awards (6.30-7.30 pm) NCPA Nariman Point
TATA Literature Live! Awards followed by a speech by Lifetime Achievement Awardee.
Why attend? Check out the best books of the year.
